A little about... Myrrh !

Myrrh

As it’s almost Christmas I thought it would be a good time to talk about Myrrh! The wise men brought it as a present to baby Jesus for good reason. It’s highly prized for a wide range of uses from the physical to the spiritual. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🌿Myrrh is distilled from the gum /resin of a shrub like tree native to the Arabian peninsula & parts of Africa. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🤓Therapeutically it’s highly antiseptic, antibacterial & anti inflammatory. Its healing & expectorant properties means it can help ease coughs, throat issues such as laryngitis and also chest complaints like bronchitis. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣🤲🏻 Traditionally Myrrh was used to heal skin wounds & a recent study carried out it was concluded that when combined with Sandalwood especially- it was effective at killing skin microbes that infect skin wounds. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣✨Emotionally I find it’s earthy scent particularly grounding and calming, and like it’s aromatic soul mate Frankincense it brings peace & tranquility to a hectic mind. In times of worry it can be a comfort & inspire you to summon inner strength and courage when you really need it . ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣📚Spiritually it’s a powerful oil. It can encourage acceptance and release. V. Worwood tells us “ It would be so easy to walk down any of the roads hanging on to our wounds, but Myrrh helps us to realise the need to let go, that they are past & that it’s time to move forward”. ⁣
⁣⁣
⁣💚 I like to use it with Frankincense, Sandalwood, Ginger & Patchouli for a deeply calming yet rejuvenating blend. ⁣
