Ever since I was given some sandalwood beads years ago I’ve been allured by its unique, almost hypnotic scent; soft sweetness with undertones of wood of course, but with almost a creamy note to it as well. It’s inviting, comforting & definitely has a certain je ne sais quois about it.
🌳Sandalwood has been revered for centuries in eastern medicine and used extensively throughout the ages for it’s ability to heal mind, body & spirit.
✨I find it particularly useful in treating any stress related conditions, particularly “hot headed” states. It is also a brilliant skin soother, helping to combat dryness or inflammation. It’s often an ingredient in anti ageing products due to this & contains natural high antioxidant levels. As a spiritual oil, it “opens the mind” and is beneficial to meditation practices.
😍It’s a renowned aphrodisiac. Its scent appealing to both women & men. In a 2006 study from the University of Pennsylvania researchers found that women who inhaled the essential oil during sex reported a spike in desire & elevated mood.
📚V A Worwood says Sandalwood encourages “warmth, sensitivity, serenity, harmony, peace, wisdom, insightfulness & unity.”
🌿I personally love to blend it with Jasmine & Cardamon to make an indulgent & exotic bath oil for those times when you really need to escape! It’s also wonderful with Lavender & Frankincense for a deeply relaxing & grounding blend.
🤑It’s not the cheapest oil... It is in great demand & the Sandalwood trees must be grown and harvested sustainably. A 10ml bottle of the essential oil will be likely to set you back some £40.
💚I hope you enjoyed reading a little about Sandalwood!
