A little about Lavender!

aromatherapy essentialoils Lavender wellbeing

👋🏻Introducing “Oil of the Week”! Every week I’m going to share a post about an essential or base “carrier” oil that I think are wonderful and I use in my blends. I hope you enjoy reading about them.
⁣⁣
⁣💜If there was one “essential” oil (excuse the pun!) that I think every household should have it’s Lavender. It has a multitude of therapeutic uses. Whether to sprinkle a drop on the edge of your pillow to help you get to sleep, as first aid for a cut, insect bite or mild burn (put a drop on a wet cotton wool ball and apply for the latter), or as a quick fix inhale from the bottle when you need immediate stress relief, Lavender is truly an amazing oil. ⁣

⁣📚In “Aromatherapy for healing the spirit” @gabrielmojay tells us “John Gerard wrote in 1587, Lavender “doth help the passion and panting of the heart”. An aromatic “Rescue Remedy”, it works to calm any strong emotions that threaten to overwhelm the mind”. We all could do with a bit of that at times, I reckon!
⁣⁣
⁣🌿Lavender can be used by pretty much everyone (it has no contraindications) and is well suited to all ages. My girls love it to help them get to sleep and especially for this purpose I love to blend it with Frankincense, Roman Chamomile & Vetiver which is a particularly soothing combination⁣.
⁣⁣
⁣🙋🏻‍♂️It’s also anti-inflammatory for the skin. I’ve just made my brother a beard oil with Lavender, Cedarwood & Sandalwood ; a gorgeous scent & great therapeutic combo.

🌾In terms of it’s therapeutic properties ( don’t worry I’m going to also talk about them individually too so you’ll get to understand what some of them mean) Lavender is analgesic, antibacterial, antidepressant, anti fungal, anti inflammatory, antiseptic, calmative, soporific, cicatrising and hypotensive to name a few!
⁣⁣
⁣😴Warning! Don’t use it early in the day unless you’ve not got much on ...it may lead to z z z z z z 😉⁣
